The Leaked GTA 6 Map

Last updated:

Search "GTA 6 map leaked" and you'll find no shortage of confident "full maps" of Leonida. This page exists to give you the honest version: a history of where these leaks came from, what they claim, and, crucially, why none of it is confirmed by Rockstar. Everything below is labelled as the rumour it is.

A quick reality check first

Before any specifics: a leaked or datamined map is not an official map. Leaked material can be outdated, incomplete, work-in-progress, mislabelled, or simply wrong. Rockstar changes its games throughout development, so even genuine internal material may not match the final release. We report what leaks claim, we never restate those claims as facts about the game.

The August 2026 CYBERLEEK leak

On 18 August 2026, a batch of alleged Grand Theft Auto VI material appeared online under the name CYBERLEEK: gameplay clips, plus an image presented as the complete map of Leonida. More material followed in the days after. It is the freshest "leaked map" in circulation, so here is exactly where we stand on it.

What is genuinely notable. Take-Two issued DMCA takedown notices against videos carrying the leaked gameplay, and press coverage treats that as the strongest circumstantial sign that the clips are real. Note carefully what it does and does not establish: the takedowns concern the video material. Rockstar has confirmed nothing about any of it, and has said nothing at all about the map image. Leak / rumour

Why we did not touch our map. The leaked image divides Leonida into five counties: Vice-Dale, Mariana, Kelly, Leonard and Lummox. The community mapping project our marker data is built from has publicly questioned that image, and its owner considers it fake, describing the artwork as too simple to be a genuine internal Rockstar asset. At the same time, parts of it do line up with the community reconstruction, including the northern lake, the airport position and the shape of Vice City. That is an unresolved contradiction, not a confirmation. Leak / rumour

What it changes for our markers: nothing. Four of those five county names, Vice-Dale, Mariana, Kelly and Leonard, were already on our map before this leak, and were already tagged as leak or rumour. Lummox County is the only genuinely new name, and its only source is the disputed image itself. Our rule is that a place needs more than one independent source before it earns a pin, so Lummox is not on the map. No confirmed marker was touched either.

What happened next (updated 25 October 2026). "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premiered on Netflix on 27 August 2026 and was posted to Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official site later that day. Confirmed It was ground-level gameplay: Vice City streets, a skyscraper parachute jump, wetlands and open water. It did not show a top-down map, county borders or any county names, and neither did the launch trailer of 15 October 2026. The CYBERLEEK image is therefore exactly as unverified as it was in August. The one new official input on geography since then is scale: Rockstar's head of development reportedly compared the map to about twice GTA 5's, which says nothing about counties. Our map-focused recap is in what the Extended Look showed of Leonida. When the game launches on 19 November 2026, the in-game map will settle the county question, and this section will be updated with the game as the source.

The 2022 footage leak

The best-known event is the September 2022 leak, when a large batch of early in-development Grand Theft Auto VI footage appeared online without Rockstar's authorisation.

  • What it was: unfinished, work-in-progress development clips, not a finished map or an official reveal.
  • What people did with it: the community studied the clips and began piecing together guesses about geography, locations and scope.
  • What it confirmed officially: nothing about the final map. Rockstar acknowledged a network intrusion at the time but did not validate any map detail from the material.

We don't host, link to or reproduce the leaked footage. We mention the event because it's the origin point of most "leaked map" claims, and understanding that context is exactly what helps you read those claims sceptically.

What the leaked maps claim (all unverified)

The "full map" images and datamined lists that circulate make several recurring claims. Here they are, each clearly tagged:

  • A complete outline of Leonida. Fan-assembled "whole map" images present a finished shape for the state. These are reconstructions from leaked fragments and trailer geography, not official cartography. Per leaks/datamines, unverified. Leak / rumour
  • Named cities and towns beyond the official ones. Leaks list additional settlement names beyond the places Rockstar has named (Vice City, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and the other areas in our official place names article). Those extra names are not confirmed. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour
  • A specific overall map size. Square-kilometre figures attached to these maps come from fan measurement, not Rockstar. Rockstar's own comments only compare the map to earlier games. Per leaks/datamines, unverified. Leak / rumour
  • Districts, interiors and landmarks. Datamined names for neighbourhoods and venues appear, but Rockstar has confirmed none of them. Per leaks, unverified. Leak / rumour

How to read a leaked map sensibly

A few habits keep you grounded:

  • Check the source's honesty. Anyone presenting a leaked map as "the official GTA 6 map" is overselling it. Trust people who label uncertainty.
  • Separate "shown" from "claimed." If it's in an official trailer, it's confirmed. If it's only in a leak, it's a guess, no matter how detailed the image looks.
  • Expect change. Development maps evolve. Even accurate-at-the-time leaks can diverge from the shipped game.
  • Wait for Rockstar. The only thing that turns a leak into a fact is official confirmation.

What we actually treat as confirmed

For contrast, the confirmed picture is short and solid: Leonida as the state, Vice City as the main city, six officially named major areas, a Florida inspiration, and a single open world with varied biomes, all from Rockstar's own trailers, site and announcements. You can read the full confirmed list on the homepage, explore verified places on the locations hub, and see the size question handled honestly on the map size page.

Bottom line

The leaked GTA 6 map is a fascinating community artefact, but it is not the official map of Leonida, and we treat every claim it makes as unverified until Rockstar says otherwise. For quick answers on what's real versus rumoured, see the FAQ or read about our sourcing policy.
