Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. For a site built around a map, the obvious question is practical: what do you need to have sorted so that you spend launch night exploring Leonida instead of watching a progress bar? This guide separates what Rockstar has confirmed about the launch week from what is still unannounced, then suggests how to use your first hours to learn the map.

The confirmed launch-week dates

These dates come from Rockstar's pre-order announcement of 24 June 2026, published through Take-Two Interactive, and from Rockstar Support.

Date What happens Status
12 November 2026 Digital pre-load opens for pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Confirmed
12 November 2026 Physical edition available; the box contains a download code, not a game disc, so physical buyers can pre-load too Confirmed
19 November 2026 Release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Confirmed
Before 20 November 2026 Purchases and pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack Confirmed

That gives you a full week between pre-load and release. There is no PC version announced, so console is the only route at launch.

What Rockstar has not announced yet

Three launch details are widely discussed but, at the time of writing, have no official Rockstar figure.

  • Download size. We could not find an install or download size from Rockstar or its support pages. Numbers quoted online vary wildly and are estimates. Unconfirmed
  • Pre-load start hour. Rockstar gives the date, 12 November, but not an hour. Some outlets say local midnight; treat that as a report, not a promise. Unconfirmed
  • Unlock time on 19 November. Rockstar has not published a regional unlock table. Reports disagree on whether it unlocks at local midnight or in waves across time zones. Unconfirmed

We will update this article and the FAQ if Rockstar publishes any of these.

A checklist for the week before

None of this requires insider knowledge. It is the boring preparation that saves a launch night.

  1. Free up storage early. Because the size is unknown, clear generously rather than to the gigabyte. Moving older games to external storage is quicker than deleting and redownloading later.
  2. Check your pre-order is digital or has a code. Digital pre-orders pre-load automatically or from the game's store page. Physical buyers redeem the code from the box after 12 November.
  3. Leave the console able to download in standby. Both PS5 rest mode and Xbox's standby settings can keep downloads going overnight, which matters if the day-one patch lands late.
  4. Expect a day-one update. Large open-world games commonly receive one. Leave time on 18 and 19 November for it.
  5. Bookmark the map. Our interactive map works on phones, so you can keep it on a second screen while you play.

Using your first hours to learn the map

The story will steer where you go first, and we will not guess at mission order. What you can plan is how you use free time between missions.

Start with the city grid. Vice City is the confirmed anchor of the map and, according to Rockstar's own description, the home of Ocean Beach. If you have the Vintage Vice City Pack, its Shore Court garage sits near Ocean Beach, which makes it a natural first landmark to orient from. Our Vice City guide covers what has been shown of the city.

Then follow the water. The Extended Look showed airboats, kayaks and jet skis, and the Leonida Keys and Grassrivers are both water-defined regions. Coastlines are the easiest way to understand the shape of a new map. Our locations hub lists what each region is known for.

Use the regions as a checklist. Rockstar has named six major areas: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Visiting each once in the first days gives you a mental map faster than any fan image. On our interactive map you can tick Mark visited in each marker's popup; the ticks are stored only in your own browser, so they survive a refresh without any account.

Do not trust leaked maps for navigation. The in-game map will be the authority from day one. The county names on leaked images, discussed on our leaked map page, may simply not exist in the shipped game.

What we will do on launch day

Once the game is out, the in-game map becomes the source we cite. We will check every marker against it, promote names and positions that the game confirms, remove rumours the game contradicts, and date each change on the map news page.
